FQ: My daughter is almost 3 and half now but she fell very ill last year. (Im going to try to make the story quick :)) She kept getting sick back to back, pneumonia, bad coughs, ear infection, eye infection between December 2012 and April 2013. I called the doctor one day to tell her that my daughter looked a little yellow, was shaking on and off, had a cough, complaining that she was cold, and hers eyes her oozing pus. The bacterial eye infection was an unrelated side effect. When the doctor saw my daughter, she didnt agree that she looked yellow but I urged her to due blood work. The doctor called me the next day (while I was getting a consultation at the ENT doctor for my daughter) and asked me if I was in a quiet place. I was sure that my daughter had jaundice which is an indication of a blood or liver problem and due to the shaking and complaining of being cold, I figured it had something to do with her blood. She instructed me to take my daughter to the hospital immediately and she let me know that they were expecting her. She ended up being diagnosed with autoimmune paroxysmal cold hemolytic anemia (PCH). I was told that only about 1% of all anemics have this type of anemia and that she would have to stay in the hospital to receive a series of blood transfusions. They say that the disease is acute in children and does not reoccur but I am still concerned. Has anyone else had this happen to them and if so, did the disease reoccur?
