FRAN -------------- Thursday, 23 October 2014 Sons Will Test Us Written by Andrew Dickson KENNY McDOWALL has warned Rangers not to be fooled by Dumbarton’s indifferent form as they get set to visit the Bet Butler Stadium on Saturday. Ex-Ger Ian Murray’s team has won only one of its last six games, just two of its 10 league matches so far and has the worst goal difference in the SPFL Championship. By the same token, it has also lost just one of its last seven outings, with last weekend’s 5-1 defeat at Hearts their first since a narrow 3-2 reverse at Hibernian in August. The Sons are currently seventh in the table, just two points above the relegation play-off place, and were beaten 4-1 when they came to Ibrox two months ago. Light Blues assistant manager McDowall expects a much tighter game than that this weekend though against a side he and boss Ally McCoist have watched extensively. He told RangersTV: “We know Ian well from his time as a player here. He has done a great job down there and he knows the requirements. “Ally and I saw a lot of Dumbarton last season and they had a really good work ethic about them. “In the games we’ve seen this year, along with the reports we’ve had, it is very similar to then even if their results haven’t been as good overall. “We expect nothing less than a tough, tough match and their ground can be a difficult place to go to if the wind is blowing. Our attitude needs to be bang on.” Rangers will travel down the Clyde looking to defend and build on an unbeaten away league record which now spans more than two years. Since losing 1-0 at Stirling in a Third Division fixture in October 2012, they’ve played 36 league fixtures on the road and have won 32 of them, drawing the other four. While those statistics are impressive, McDowall is more bothered about the future than the past. He added: “We’re proud of the run but when you’re involved in it, you just keep going. You tend not to think about it too much. “If it’s a record that’s great but at the moment it’s three points each week and getting through in cup games we’re more concerned about. “We’ve a lot of games coming up but you can only win one at a time and that’s what we’ve got to do. “Hopefully there are wee slip ups from our rivals here and there but we are only in control of our own matches.
