FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky State University scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to power past the Alderson Broaddus football team 49-20 in a weather-shortened contest Saturday. The game was ended following the third quarter due to inclement weather. The Thorobreds (3-2) punctuated six first half possesions with touchdowns. Quarterback Adam Robinson tossed two touchdowns and tailback Jac Lockett rushed for two scores in the opening half. Lockett rushed for 137 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Quarterback Weslley Nesmith (Beaver Falls, Pa.) started under center for the Battlers (2-3) and put together another solid outing. He passed for 165 yards and threw a 66-yard touchdown to senior receiver Preston Bailey (Duncan, S.C.) in the second quarter. Bailey led all ABU wide receivers with 88 yards on two receptions. Freshman Dakota Bruggeman (Saxonburg, Pa.) played late in the second half in relief of Nesmith. He connected on 5-of-9 passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Michael James (Woodbridge, Va.) recorded his second straight contest with an interception. He picked off Robinson to end a third quarter drive for the Thorobreds. Defensive back Malcolm Lee (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led ABU with 7.5 tackles, followed by James with five. The Battlers travel to East Point, Ga., Saturday, Oct. 12 to face Point University. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET.
