FRAUD ALERT: This week, an automated calling system is calling our house, with the phone number of 800-830-8574, and the name shows as CARD SERVICES. The computer plays a message to call them back to verify our transactions. When you call the number back, the Customer Service Agent will say that there are suspicious or unusual transactions detected on your Credit/Debit card account, or some similar story. They even have your name, the last 4 digits of your account number, and your bank name. They claim to be the company FIRST DATA and that they were contracted by your bank or credit agency to monitor the transactions on your account. And, if you do not verify information on your account and review your most recent transactions, then your Credit/Debit account will be put on hold or cancelled altogether. I just verified with our bank that this is NOT legit. They do not contract with First Data, and their Transaction Review process for their customers accounts are not handled this way. These people pulling this scam are slick. Very, very convincing, but having dealt with identify theft scenarios, I question EVERYTHING. I have some friends that work for First Data, and it is sad that these scam artists are trying their best to tarnish the reputation of a good company.
