FREE ADVICE TO MAIZE FARMERS IN ZAMBIA: Because of the late start of the rains in the center to Southern Half of Zambia, i wish to advise as follows: 1. Plant Medium to early maturing maize varieties. 2. Use per-emergence (non Selective) herbicides in place of mechanical or hand weeding methods. Its three times cheaper and seven times faster. 3. Apply basal dress fertilizer at planting and not after germination to cut on time loss and labor costs. 4. Look out for army worms and other crop destroying pests whose eggs have hatched by now and are probably in larval stage of their life cycles. The planting season will be extremely short.
