FREE AIRPLANE RIDES FOR KIDS TOMORROW IN FLORA 6/7/13 Area young people ages 7-17 have the chance to take to the skies as the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 16 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at the Flora Airport tomorrow. The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program created to interest young people in aviation. Since the program was launched in 1992, volunteer EAA pilots have flown more than 1.7 million young people in 90 countries worldwide. EAA Spokesman Neil Swartzbaugh says, “Free airplane ridges are just part of the rally. We hope to build one-to-one relationships between pilots and young people, giving a new generation the chance to learn about the possibilities that exist in aviation.” Folling a flight, each participant receives a certificate proclaiming their status as a Young Eagle. Their name is submitted to the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The logbook is accessible 24/7 at youngeagles.org. All pilots involved in the Young Eagles Program are licensed, with many years of experience and volunteer their time and aircraft so flights are free of charged to interested young people. For those planning to attend the rally tomorrow, registration begins at 9:00am and ends at 3:00pm at the Flora Airport. Flights begin at 9:00am and continue throughout the day. Additional information about the EAA and the Young Eagles program can be found on the eaa.org home page and youngeagles.org. For questions or more information, please contact Neil Swartzbaugh at 686-2324.
