FREE CONCERT BY THE BEAUFORT SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA CONDUCTOR: Frederick Devyatkin, BSO Maestro DONATIONS ACCEPTED TO BENEFIT THE BRIDGES PREP MUSIC PROGRAM Details coming soon! 1) Don Giovanni Overture Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni, first produced in 1787, is a retelling of the legends of Don Juan, a fictional libertine, and his eventual descent into hell. This dramatic overture captures the entrance of a vengeful ghost who appears near the end of the opera to demand repentance from Don Giovanni for his misdeeds; otherwise he is prepared to take Giovanni to hell. The music by which the ghost appears is some of the most formidable that Mozart would ever write. Mozart placed hints at the beginning of the overture foreshadowing Giovanni’s fate. 2) Slavonic Dance No. 3 Antonin Dvorak (1841 – 1904) First written as two sets of piano duets in 1878 and 1886, Dvorak wrote the Slavonic Dances at the urging of a German music publisher seeking to capitalize on a vogue for eastern European folk music and traditional dance. 3) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban John Williams (b. 1932) This medley of favorite themes from the 2004 Warner Brothers motion picture soundtrack features Hedwig’s Theme, Double Trouble, Sirius’ Farewell and Mischief Managed (End Credits). 4) A Michael Jackson Tribute Michael Jackson (1958 – 2009), arranged by Michael Story Three of Michael’s best-known pop singles are featured in this tribute: Billie Jean and Beat It from the chart-breaking Thriller album (1983), and Heal the World from the Dangerous album (1992). 5) The Sound of Music Richard Rodgers (1902 – 1979) This medley from the 1965 Academy Award winning American musical film treasure starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer features some of the most beloved songs from cinematic history: The Sound of Music, The Lonely Goatherd, My Favorite Things, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, So Long, Farewell, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Maria and Climb Ev’ry Mountain.
