FREE RETRAINING RESOURCES FOR MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONISTS Many - TopicsExpress

FREE RETRAINING RESOURCES FOR MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONISTS Many folks may not be aware that there are free health IT training materials publicly available for individuals and training organizations. There is a wealth of information available at hrsa.gov/healthit/workforce/training.html. A lot of community colleges and trade schools use these materials in their programs, but ANYONE can download the materials totally free of charge. Previously individuals who successfully completed a training program using these materials were eligible to take a free exam to obtain the HITpro certification. That program has now been taken over by AHIMA and the credential has been renamed to Certified Healthcare Technology Specialists (CHTS). The exams (there are actually six different specialized exams) are administered through Pearson and are no longer free; they cost $299 each. According to information I have received from AHIMA, you do NOT have to attend a formal training course using the HIT materials in order to take the exams. However, even without taking the credentialing exams, studying the freely available HIT materials can only benefit individuals with existing medical and/or IT-related skill sets in planning for future career moves.
