FREE WILL - What an unusual concept: If we assume that "I" am - TopicsExpress

FREE WILL - What an unusual concept: If we assume that "I" am nothing more than a physical process or state, or ongoing states, of my physical brain, then "I" must follow the laws of the physical world. But my brain is part of the physical world so it is following its own laws; therefore "I" am following my own laws. So, when I make a decision, I am deciding based on my own laws of how I do my thinking. How could I think other than how I think? If I should change my mind and decide differently, I would use my physical brain processes (which is me) to change my mind (which is my physical brain processes, which is me). So whatever I choose to decide, it will be my decision made freely by me. Any other decision-making option or method seems comically irrational to me. Being new to this area of inquiry, I was wondering if anyone here might let me know if this idea is a developed philosophical idea with its own "ism" name to go with it? If not then maybe I should call it something like "free determinism"?
