FRESH CRISIS ENGULFS RIVERS PDP, NO MEMBERSHIP REGISTER Yet to resolve its mounting crises, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stepped into another round of fisti-cuffs. On top of that, The Neighbourhood has discovered that the PDP in Rivers State has no single membership register. Insider revelations show that unless it runs a fresh drive and documentation of membership, the party will not have the constitutional delegates to conduct governorship primaries for the 2015 governorship election. The first implication, it was gathered, is that its National Working Committee, NWC, will choose the candidate. As usual, the current crisis has something to do with the frustration of its ‘members’ over how Mr. Ezebuwon Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister for State, Education, has allegedly hijacked the entire party, in alleged collaboration with Bro. Felix Obuah, the Abuja High Court-installed State Chairman, and his co-beneficiary of the court’s bizarre ruling, Walter Ibiba. While actually the Abuja court only sacked Chief Godspower Umejuru Ake and Barr. Adokiye Oruwari, as Chairman and Secretary, respectively, leaving the rest State Executive and State Working Committee members in office, Wike and Obuah went ahead to install their core loyalists into offices neither dissolved by the National Working Committee of the party nor any known court in Nigeria. The latest salvo of words is between Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, a Kalabari Chief and vocal advocate for a Rivers State governor of Kalabari extraction in 2015, and supporters of Wike and Obuah. At a public function recently, Sara-Igbe lambasted Wike, who allegedly through courtesy Obuah and Ibiba, has turned the Rivers State PDP into a private estate. As usual, Sara-Igbe immediately came within the shooting range of Wike’s camp, accusing him of “mischief.” He was accused of working for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. But Sara-Igbe was not yet done. Speaking on a radio station interview monitored in Port Harcourt, the Chief confirmed that Obuah and Ibiba entered their present party positions through the “back door”. He said: “Though Obuah and Walter, who is like my son, entered into the offices they occupy through the back, I accept their positions because the court said so.” Sara-Igbe was one of those the PDP claimed had no membership status, though that has long been dismissed. The Neighbourhood investigations into the PDP’s current numerical strength in Rivers State revealed that it has no membership register. It was gathered that unless it embarks on new membership registration between now and September, it will not conduct governorship primaries nor hold any state, local government or ward congress in Rivers State. A PDP source told The Neighbourhood, “Amaechi and his group went away with all PDP membership registers. This has put us in a very tight corner. Obuah and his loyalists cannot present any PDP membership register as we speak today. Thats the more reason when they claim to have expelled a member of the party in the state, we only laugh at them theneighbourhoodonline/news/othernews/3031-fresh-crisis-engulfs-rivers-pdp,-has-no-membership-register.html
