FRIDAY, 11/7/14 POETRY. Psalm 1:1-3 “God’s Desire for Me!” (By Barry) WORSHIP: https://youtube/watch?v=pOnTfCH4Qgc#t=23 SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&c=1&t=NLT Who am I? What kind of life did God design for me? Those are big questions! We started the book of Psalms a couple weeks ago, and we will look at the first three verses of Psalm 1 today, and focus on verse 3: 1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. We discussed what it means to “delight” in the Lord, to make Him the most important thing in your life, your highest priority. There is a promise that is associated with making Him your DELIGHT. If our focus is on Jesus, if we are really and truly IN LOVE with Him, then today’s Psalm promises that we will flourish and prosper, and we will “bear fruit” in every season. That is an incredible picture of what God has designed your life to be! THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. In the book of John (Chapter 4), Jesus met a lady one time, and made her a radical promise. “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” Jesus was promising her that He could provide HIMSELF, and that since He is “Living Water,” He could cause her to “never thirst again.” That is a CRAZY thought, and that is what King David (who wrote Psalm 1) is trying to get us to understand, as well. Does it make sense to you? —*2. Picture a majestic tree that is planted along a huge river. That tree ALWAYS has a source for nutrients, no matter what. What is YOUR source? Who do YOU depend on? —3. God desires you to “prosper in everything you do.” What does that mean? A 100 on every test? A brand new Ferrari when you turn 16? —4. The Bible talks a lot about “bearing fruit.” THAT is God’s desire for you. You were created to BE creative. You were designed to accomplish things that only you can accomplish. God has BIG plans for you. —5. When this verse talks about bearing fruit in “each season,” what do you think that means? —6. The Psalms are amazing poetry, but I hope you can see that they are SO much more than that. These Psalms, including Psalm 1, give us an intimate look at what God desires for YOU. How does that make you feel? PRAYER: —A. Adore Him! Focus on a characteristic of God, and just tell Him how much you appreciate that about Him! —C. Confess to Him. He knows EVERYTHING. So, as He brings things to your mind, confess them to Him, and ask for His forgiveness. —T. Thank Him! Think of something that has happened recently! —S. Seek Him! Ask Him for something! In fact, ask Him to SHOW you what you should ASK for!
