FRIDAY, 4TH OCTOBER, 2013 HEIRS OF GOD, JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST “And if Children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint- heirs with Christ”. Romans 8:17 An heir is a rightful inheritor. By law, he has access to a property or asset he did not labour for. Children are born natural heirs. By reason of their birth, they have access to an inheritance, something they did not labour for. Many of us are aware of the story in Luke 15:11-32 that has come to be known as the story of the prodigal son. In that story a son was bold enough to go to his father to make a demand of the inheritance that was to fall to him. He went to his father and not to someone else’s father. As a son he knew that he was an heir and on the basis of that he went to his father. His father never made a comment to suggest that the boy’s request was out of order. No servant, no matter how faithful, had the boldness to go to the man to make such a request. But the son, with the consciousness of his heirship, knew that everything his father had labored for was his to enjoy and for that reason went to him to make his demand. Someone could be a genuine heir and still suffer if he doesn’t know what belongs to his father. The other son had longed for a goat to make merry with his friends but that never happened. In this kingdom it is done for you according to your revelation. Once you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and personal saviour you have become an heir of God and joint-heir with Christ. What that means is that everything belonging to the father, which has been duly committed to the trust of the son has now become ours. The life of Christ is ours, his glory, wealth, honour, power and all that He is, are now rightfully ours. We are no ordinary people, we are children and therefore heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Confession: I am a child of God, the creator of the universe, He owns all things and I am his heir. I live a life of abundance to reflect the heir that I am. No more beggarly life in Jesus’ name! Ps. David
