FRIDAY FOCUS from Pastor Brent for September 26, 2014 Empowered by the Spirit to Minister, Part 2 Series: Bold Witness -- Acts 5:21-42 In the passage we are looking at this week (Acts 5:21-42) we find the apostles having one of the hardest days they have had so far. The day actually started out with great ministry: healings, signs and wonders, casting out demons, many accepting Christ, and to top it all off they escaped from prison! But by the next morning they were arrested again and then, for the first time in their lives, they were beaten severely for their faith. I think one of the most telling statement in the whole passage is found in verse 41 where it says, “The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.” Even after they had suffered, they counted it a privilege. Hmmm. I would encourage you to actually read the whole story found in Acts 5:12-42. I would encourage you to ask yourself if your response would have been the same as the apostles. The fact is, we have the same Holy Spirit guiding, protecting, and empowering us today as they did then. Peace!
