FRIDAY, May 2 Psalm 17:12. They are like a lion eager to tear, like a young lion lurking in ambush. (NRSV) These two lions were anything but young, and they certainly weren’t lurking in ambush. They were relaxing in the warm sun of an African morning, their majestic heads barely visible above the tall grass. This male and female were the king and queen of their domain, the only members of their species here. We had spent an hour driving to a far corner of this 18,000-acre game reserve, looking for just this sight. We sat transfixed, twenty-five meters away.
