FRIEND our site if you enjoy these older Airborne - military photos/items. On D-Day, 6 June 1944, Private James Blue, 508th PIR 82nd Airborne, jumped behind the enemy lines and landed in water at the Merderet Causeway. Later James Blue, carrying a Thompson sub-machine gun, and other paratroopers fought a battle against the German forces at La Fiere Causeway Bridge. Blue later went on to fight at Nijmegen Holland and was wounded by pieces of a German tank round in the Battle of the Bulge. Blue is featured in several books about these battles of WW-2. Blue returned to the D-Day battle site several years later and brought back the sand in these photos right off the Omaha Beach battle site. Blue also went back to the site where he fought the Germans at La Fiere Bridge. Blue brought back this piece of the stone work from the bridge that was broken off by enemy fire. Donated by the Blue family. General William C. Lee Airborne Museum. Dunn, N.C.
