FRIENDS BEWARE or ... ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR MOM!! :) : Well ... I sorta had a crazy ending to my day today. To back up a bit, something bit the back of my lower right leg @ the second week or so in May. It was a Saturday & I was driving & felt it. Reaching down, I didnt see or feel anything there. Days later, this odd lump with sort of a hole in the middle developed at this bite site. Even though it sometimes itched, I never scratched it. But when I would actually touch it, it would have this distinct burning sensation deep within the tissue. So I started thinking it was more than maybe a mosquito bite and was concerned that it might be a fire ant bite, a spider bite, or ... a dreaded tick bite. I treated it for days with peroxide, antibiotic ointment, etc. Nothing made it better and in fact it developed this sort of hard core skin covering, sort of like a callous-type leision. So because it was in a spot that was difficult for me to see (because my bad knees wont let me rotate my leg, I started having mom look at it, colleagues at school look at it, etc. No one could really determine what it looked like but from the start, mom (a.k.a. Tootsy) said ... go and let a doctor look at it because I dont like the looks of it! Well, weeks went by with no healing or change of this leision (in a perdson who has always healed very quickly & easily). However, during this now 8-9 week period of time, I have become incredibly exhausted & physically unable to do things I normally do - in fact, not many of my friends or colleagues know this, but I have been laying down in bed upon getting home from work, too tired to do anything I need or should do. In addition, I have increasingly been feeling much of the time like I have been hit by a medium-sized truck ... unusual muscle aches & joint pain in joints that heretofore have not had issues. For weeks, I attributed both my extreme tiredness and extra joint discomfort in my hands, back, & shoulders to the stress my body has been under in dragging around two non-functioning knees. So, last week, I took myself to my much loved & respected Dr./PA Sayah Araghi! after going over everything & looking at the still non-healed bite, she did a boatload of bloodwork (after the 7th vial, I told them I was going to start charging them for the next ones! And so, with all of that said, I am relaying that I got a call today that all my bloodwork was great (thank God) but that (I honestly did not expect this) BUT ... that there was indeed positive elevation (even after almost 9 weeks) of the specific blood titer test indicating that I have been bitten by a tick and have been exposed to Rocky Mtn. Sotted Fever. JOY upon joy! I was/am truly dumbfounded to hear this. This does NOT, I repeat NOT mean that I have RMSF, but it does mean that I must be treated as if I do! So, yours truly is now on doxycycline twice a day for the next 4 (yes, four) weeks! This explains alot about my fatigue & muscle/joint discomfort for the past while! Part of my sharing this VERY long story with yall is that I NEVER EVER EVEN SAW A TICK ON ME!! So, beware .... they are out there! Sure, I have 2 dogs but Ive never seen a tick on either of them! The fact is ... I could have gotten it anywhere! Anyway, just be aware of any odd bites that dont heal normally ... and for Petes sake, above all else ... listen to your mother no matter what your age & go to the doctor when she tells you to! Regardless of this little bump in the road, most certainly thrown there by the stupid devil, I will NOT be defeated by his stupid stunts. This could have been worse & I know it ... thereby proving that once again, GOD IS SO GOOD ... NOT SOME OF THE TIME, BUT ALL OF THE TIME!
