FROM ANOTHER FACEBOOK USER: Tobin Benham and Will Coleman, what do you think? High school students in CO have walked out of classes two days in a row now protesting in solidarity with those in Ferguson, MO. I must ask the following questions of you: 1. Do you kids, yes kids as in persons under the age of 18, know what youre protesting and why? 2. Do you know which document grants you the right to protest, ahem, peaceably assemble? 3. Exactly what are you accomplishing, achieving, and/or advancing by walking out of school? 4. Do you know or have you even taken a second to comprehend what consequences there are for your actions? 5. Did you think about the amount of time, money, and resources the city of Denver would have to dedicate to your protest, not to mention the safety of the police officers who were dispatched to protect your rights? (Yes, I said protect in the same sentence as police, you did read that correctly.) 6. Are you at all aware of the danger that officers willingly put themselves in so that you stay safe not just walking out of school, but at all times, 24 hours a day? 7. Are you aware that Ferguson, MO is not located in the state of Colorado? 8. Have you kids ever interacted with former officer Darren Wilson in any capacity whatsoever? 9. Did any of you serve on the grand jury and listen to the sworn testimony delivered by witnesses as opposed to acting on information that may or may not be accurate delivered by less than credible sources? 10. Have you considered the time, money, and resources wasted by your respective schools preparing for the school day, staffing teachers, administrators, and employees only for you to march out of class? I really and truly believe that your collective answer to these questions would have to be a resounding, “No” which saddens me. Instead of placing value on what are actual and tangible priorities, you have chosen to jump on a broken bandwagon in a flimsy and pedestrian show of supposed solidarity. If this situation concerning the case of Michael Brown was of such great importance that you would leave school, why have you waited 3 months and 24 days to stage your demonstration? Because it’s the cool thing to do, or so you think.
