FROM: Jenny Kastner A MUST READ - FROM A FRIEND! In the highly intriguing analysis transmitted below, Alastair Crooke argues that the true threat posed by ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State is not to the “far enemy” (the West) but, rather, to the “near enemy” with which it shares the same ideological and historical roots. Notwithstanding the inherent irrationality of its ideology and beliefs, ISIS has demonstrated remarkable tactical skills and cleverness as it has spread its wings and black flag and created a de facto state in recent months. It should be clear that its highly mediatized beheadings of two American citizens were not intended to discourage the United States from intervening more actively against it but, rather, intended to induce the United States to do so, based on the rational calculation that nothing could so rapidly enhance its credibility and popularity among its Sunni support base as being demonized and attacked by the infidel “Great Satan” or “Evil Empire”, the perceived enemy of all true Muslims Unfortunately, with Barack Obama having now declared publicly that it is the objective of the United States to “destroy” ISIS, America, which should have learned something from its recent military debacles in the Muslim world, appears to be on the verge of stumbling blindly into the trap which has been laid for it. Would it not be more sensible from every perspective – including the potential for “success” – to let this problem be dealt with directly by those who are directly threatened by it and, not incidentally, extremely well armed? NOTE: For anyone interested in knowing more about the 1979 seizure of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, a traumatic and transformational event which is discussed below, I recommend the book The Siege of Mecca by Yaroslav Trofimov (2007).
