FROM: SUNDAY’S OPEN Q & A How do we reconcile the difference in days between 2 kings 25:27 and Jeremiah 52:31? i also noticed the word prison is 2 different hebrew words translated as prison. 2 Kings 25:27 And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison; Jeremiah 52:31 And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the five and twentieth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison, Thats a good question. I never noticed the two day difference in days before. Historically, we can probably understand it as a sort of process. Evilmerodach makes the decision on the 25thd day of the 12 month to do this, and once the decision is made he has, in essence, lifted up Jehoiachins head; but the actual carrying out of the kings command to bring him out of prison probably took a couple of days extra before he was actually released (on the 27th day of the 12th month). But why God tells us about this, I dont know.
