FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE... 2014 LENTEN REGULATIONS Lenten is the time for the faithful to be “even more attentive to the word of GOD and prayer, to prepare themselves by penance for the renewal of their baptismal promises” 1. The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. * On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. * On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence. 2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence “substantially”, or as a whole, is a serious obligation. 3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance. 4. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, March 9, 2014 to the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, June 15, 2014. REGULACIONES PARA CUARESMA 2014 1. Los días de ayuno y abstinencia, durante la Cuaresma son el Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo. Los otros viernes de Cuaresma son días solamente de abstinencia. * En un día de ayuno, sólo una (1) comida completa está permitida. Las personas de edades comprendidas entre 18 y 59 años están obligados a ayunar. * En un día de abstinencia, no se puede comer carne. Aquellos que han alcanzado la edad de 14 años están obligados a cumplir la ley de abstinencia. 2. La obligación de observar las leyes de ayuno y abstinencia sustancialmente, o como un todo, es una obligación necesaria. 3. Los viernes del año, fuera de la Cuaresma, son designados como días de penitencia, pero cada individuo puede sustituir la abstinencia de carne tradicional por algunas otras prácticas de auto-negación como penitencia. 4. El tiempo para cumplir el precepto Pascual (Trabajo de Pascua) se extiende desde el primer domingo de Cuaresma, 9 de Marzo de 2014, hasta la solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad, 15 de Junio de 2014.
