FROM THE DESK OF THE CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO THE STUDENT UNION PRESIDENT(RSUST). WITHDRAWAL FOR ACADEMIC FAILURE (WAF) LIST: MATTERS ARISING. By now, every bonafide student of RSUST should be aware of the recent release of the WAF list for 2014/2015 session. This is not an abnormal phenomenom as far as RSUST is concern. However, of concern is the fact that two separate lists were released at separate times. One list was based on the well known below 1 point CGPA grade, and the second is based on the newly initiated below 1.5 CGPA grade. Yesterday (4/12/2014), it came to the notice of the SUG President, Comr. Mene Trust Adee, that a set of students affected by the second list had convened at the Love Garden with the motive to stage a protest. In swift reaction, he moved with his team to the place of covergence. True to the fact, there was such gathering. However, the president, in a loving, understanding and concerned attitude, was able to calm the aggrieved students and bring them to the dialogue table. At the end of it, it was agreed that the students should elect five leaders to represent them in a team that included the President, Vice- President, Comr. Grace Emmanuel and The President of Faculty of Engineering, that will diplomatically take their grievances to the school authorities. The team then proceed to the VCs Office were the discussion was held. Here are the cardinal outcome of the dialogue session: *The below 1.5 CGPA decision was taken by the School Senate in line with National University Commission (NUC) directives. * It is to take effect from 2013/2014 academic session. *Those affected but had paid their fees will have refunds. * However, the matter will be taken back to the School Senate for consideration. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barineme Fakae, expressed his pleasure at the manner the students conducted themselves. He urged students with like or other kind of issues to come forth with them in like manner so they can be resolved with immediate effect. KUE BARINOR PAUL. CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO THE STUDENT UNION PRESIDENT.
