You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates” (Deut 6:6-9) “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Jos 1:8). “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways” (Ps 119:1-3). The value and the worth of the Bible, which is the word of God in the life of mankind and especially for us Christians, cannot be quantified. The need for every child of God to be familiar with the Bible cannot be gainsaid. In the same vein, the importance of reading, meditating, and studying the Bible, the word of God for every heaven- bound child of God cannot be over-emphasized. It has always been God’s delight for His people to be mindful of His word from time immemorial, because, in His word lies everything that is profitable for the present world and the world to come. In a generation that is crazy of breakthrough, success, prosperity, and what have you, what could be better than to be acquitted and familiar with the Bible; not only by carrying it to the church every Sunday but by reading, studying, meditating and applying its principles in our daily living and claiming its precious and good promises for our good. The Bible contained virtually everything we need to prosper spiritually, materially, physically and financially. I call the Bible “our goldmine”. Moses taught the children of Israel to hold the word in high esteem to teach it to their children, in the night, before they sleep; in the morning, when they wake up; to have it written on the doorposts of their houses. When God gave Joshua, a seemingly impossible task of taking the children of Israel to the Promised Land and to dislodge the inhabitants of the land (about seven nations) and also divide the land for the children of Israel to take absolute possession of the land; the only weapon God gave to Joshua was “this Book of the Law”. He told him if Joshua would not depart from the Book of the Law but meditate on it day and night he would prosper and make good success; I believe this was what enabled Joshua to achieve what he achieved. The Psalms which is the longest book in the Bible opens with the word ‘BLESSED is the man…whose delight is in the word of God, in it he meditates day and night; the result is that everything he does prospers. It is your turn in this year of fulfillment to tap and dig deep into the word of God, cling to your Bible closer than ever before, don’t just read it, read it and do what it says you should do, apply its principles and claim its good promises for your good. Last year I listened to Evangelist/ Pastor Jimmy Swaggert say he had read the Bible through fifty one times (51 times). As that would not be a thing of too much surprise, while I was reading The Word For You Today, A Daily Devotional of January 11, 2014, I read about “Edgar G. Watts of North Hollywood, California, aged eighty-four, read the Bible from cover to cover 161 times. And here’s something you probably don’t know: he had the use of only one eye for fifty-five years”. Brethren this is a challenge to all of us- Cling to your Bible. Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes » (Deut. 6 :6-9). « Que ce livre de la loi ne séloigne point de ta bouche; médite-le jour et nuit, pour agir fidèlement selon tout ce qui y est écrit; car cest alors que tu auras du succès dans tes entreprises, cest alors que tu réussiras » (Jos. 1 :8). « Heureux ceux qui sont intègres dans leur voie, Qui marchent selon la loi de lÉternel! Heureux ceux qui gardent ses préceptes, Qui le cherchent de tout leur cœur, Qui ne commettent point diniquité, Et qui marchent dans ses voies! » (Ps. 119 :1-3). La valeur de la Bible qui est la parole de Dieu dans la vie de l’humanité et surtout pour nous qui sommes chrétiens ne peut pas être quantifiée. Le besoin pour chaque enfant de Dieu d’être familier avec la Bible reste indéniable. De la même veine, on ne soulignerait jamais assez l’importance de lire, de méditer et d’étudier la Bible, la parole de Dieu pour tout enfant de Dieu préoccupé par les cieux. Il a toujours été du plaisir de Dieu pour son peuple de se souvenir de sa parole depuis des temps immoraux car en elle, se trouvent toutes choses profitables pour le monde présent et celui à venir. Dans une génération aussi folle de percées, de succès, de prospérités et ainsi de suite, qu’est-ce qui serait mieux que de s’acquitter et d’être familier avec la Bible ; pas seulement à se munir d’elle en allant à l’église tous les dimanches mais en la lisant, en l’étudiant, en la méditant et en appliquant ses principes dans notre vie quotidienne et en réclamant ses bonnes et précieuses promesses pour notre bien. La Bible contient presque tout ce dont nous avons besoin pour prospérer spirituellement, matériellement, physiquement et financièrement. Nous appelons la Bible notre ‘mine d’or’. Moïse enseigna les enfants d’Israël à accorder une haute estime à l’enseigner (à leur tour) à leurs enfants la nuit avant qu’ils ne se couchent et le matin à leur réveil ; qu’ils l’aient écrit sur les poteaux de leurs maisons. Quand Dieu assigna à Josué une tâche qui semblait impossible, celle d’emmener les enfants d’Israël à leur Terre Promise et de déloger les habitants de ce pays (environ sept nations) et aussi de distribuer le pays aux enfants d’Israël afin qu’il devienne leur propriété absolue. La seule arme que Dieu donna à Josué était ‘ce Livre de la Loi’ en lui disant que s’il (Josué) ne s’éloigne point du livre de la loi et le médite jour et nuit, il réussira et aura du succès. Nous croyons que c’est ce qui avait permis à Josué d’accomplir ce qu’il avait accompli. Le livre de Psaumes étant le plus long de la Bible s’annonce par le groupe de mots : « Heureux lhomme… mais qui trouve son plaisir dans la loi de lÉternel, Et qui la médite jour et nuit! » Le résultat en est que tout ce qu’il fait lui réussit. C’est ton tour à toi en cette Année d’Accomplissement d’accéder et de creuser à fond dans la parole de Dieu, de t’appliquer à ta Bible plus que jamais auparavant. Ne la lis pas simplement ; lis-la et fais ce qu’elle te dit de faire. Applique ses princes et réclame ses bonnes promesses pour ton bien. L’année dernière, j’ai écouté le Pasteur-Evangéliste Jimmy Swaggert dire qu’il a lu la Bible en long et en large cinquante-une fois (51 fois). Comme cela ne constituerait aucune plus grande surprise, quand je parcourais ‘La parole pour toi aujourd’hui’, un livre de dévotion quotidienne, paru le 11 Janvier 2014, je lis au sujet de ‘Edgar G. Watts de l’Hollywood du Nord en Californie, âgé de quatre-vingt-quatre ans qui lit la Bible de fond en comble pendant cents soixante-une fois (161 fois). Et voici quelque chose que tu ne saurais peut-être pas de lui : Il fit usage d’un seul œil pendant cinquante-cinq ans (55 ans). Frères, c’est là un défi pour nous tous – Applique-toi à ta Bible. Ne perds pas ses préceptes si purs et précieux.
