FROM THE NEWSROOM: 2014-2015 budget numbers were reviewed by the Brooklyn Board of Finance, and after a tweaking a few numbers from different boards, the final numbers will be presented next Wednesday. Gene Michael Deary – Chairman of the Board of Finance has a preliminary total of $22,563,401 which is a 2.7% increase from last year. However this number will be a bit higher once the individual budgets are finalized. The Board of Recreation, Board of Selectmen, and the Capital budgets have been approved with certain modifications. The Board of Selectmen and Capital budgets are waiting on final numbers for certain line items, while the Board of Recreation will be making changes. According to Bucky Lohbusch – Recreation Director, he has been asked by the Board of Finance to change his request for a full-time program coordinator to a part-time position. This position will focus on the Teen Center. Other notable increases were due to salary changes. The Board of Education is still under negotiations on contracts with their non-certified employees. These negotiations have been moving very slowly and they are not expected to have an agreement before the final vote by the taxpayers. Deary stated that they will handle this by entering place card numbers into the budget, as they have done in the past. When negotiations are over, the Board of Finance can then enter the exact numbers and make proper adjustments. Stay tuned for more details. Edited to add Town name.
