FROM THE NEWSROOM: A Putnam man wrecked his vehicle on a rural stretch of dirt road in Pomfret Tuesday night. State Police have released the details of the accident, reporting that John Burton, of Green St., Putnam, was traveling west on Cotton Bridge Rd. in Pomfret when he failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway just east of River Rd. Police say Burton turned the vehicle sharply, losing control of his pickup truck. The Chevy struck a stonewall, totaling the vehicle. Authorities say Burton flagged down a passerby who was able to assist him out of the vehicle. He was transported by Pomfret Ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam for treatment of minor injuries. While State Police do not report that Burton was charged in relation to the accident Tuesday, he is currently in pre-trail at Danielson Superior Court after and his December, 2012, arrest for discharging a gun through the wall of his Putnam home and into the bedroom of a neighboring teenager.
