FROM THE NEWSROOM: An Abington farmer whose locally raised horses were named the Overall World Champion Farm Team in the 2014 World Percheron Contest says his victory was a huge and rewarding surprise. But Sam Rich of We-Li-Kit farm in Pomfret insists that, in his view, its not just a personal accomplishment, but an award for the entire village of Abington; he said family, friends, neighbors, and people he didnt even know, all donated to make his entry into the competition and trip to Springfield, Mass., possible. With the championship event, which featured Percheron horse teams from all over the United States and Canada, held on a roughly four-year basis, Rich said he hopes he and those who supported him have “done Northeastern Connecticut proud.” The show was held from October 6th to October 11th – Percheron horses are showcased for their renowned aesthetic, size and strength, as well as their physical abilities, all of which were put to the test during the event. Tune in for the full report.
