FROM THE NEWSROOM: An upcoming Feb. 10 public hearing and special town meeting will have on its agenda the proposed acceptance of two parcels of land, which Killingly Town Manager Sean Hendricks says is one part in the widening of the highly-traveled intersection at Rt. 12 and Rock Ave. The other part, he says, is whether or not CL&P will move a utility pole on one of the properties, which is six inches off the road, and right in the way of the proposed roadwork. Initially, the project was quoted at approximately $30,000, which Hendricks says is not the kind of money available to the town, and he hopes that they can do it at no charge. The town manager has compiled what he thinks is a compelling safety argument, taking testimony from local businesses, residents and law enforcement officials, which stress the importance of this roadwork. There has already been work done on that area, so if the widening does occur, it will not be at an extensive cost to the town. Word has not been heard back from CL&P yet, but Hendricks says that they will still go ahead with the acceptance of the land on 953 and 957 Main St.
