FROM THE NEWSROOM: (CRN) The Connecticut Association for Human Services released a new privately-funded report this week that includes some good news and bad news about the status of children in Connecticut. The report shows that in areas where the state has made a concerted effort to improve, such as more pre-school opportunities for kids in the cities, there has been some success. But Wade Gibson, a budget analyst for Connecticut Voices for Children, says one negative statistic is very troubling for Connecticut. “Child poverty has risen fifty percent since 1990. There are very few states in the country where you can say that – we may be the only state,” he said. Gibson says poverty has increased in part due to the scarcity of good-paying manufacturing jobs that once helped many families enjoy a prosperous middle-class life. Tune in for details.
