FROM THE NEWSROOM: DERBY, Conn. (AP) — A kitten found wandering on a road in Derby has tested positive for rabies, but not before biting two people. Animal Control Officer Karen Lombardi tells the New Haven Register the kitten was found on Hickory Road Wednesday and brought to a veterinarian in Shelton. She says friend of the person who found the kitten and the vet both were bitten, and two other workers at the Shoreline Veterinary Hospital were exposed to the disease. Deborah Horvath, assistant director of the Community Health Services Division of Naugatuck Valley Health District, says all those who had contact with the kitten were referred to their health providers for assessment and treatment. Rabies is fatal if not treated. The kitten was euthanized.
