FROM THE NEWSROOM: FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — The dean of the University of Connecticuts medical school is stepping down after just over two years on the job. University President Susan Herbst says Dr. Frank Torti has told her he will resign as dean and executive vice president for health affairs in January. She says Torti plans to return to research as a faculty member at UConn. Tortis decision came after Herbst decided to split the position into two jobs. Herbst credits Torti with improving the UConn Health systems finances, increasing funding for research, expanding its services and helping develop a new curriculum for the medical school. UConn has hired Dr. Andrew Agwunobi, a director with the Berkeley Research Group, as interim executive vice president for health affairs. Dr. Bruce Liang has agreed to serve as interim dean.
