FROM THE NEWSROOM: Former Putnam Fire Department Captain of Hose - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: Former Putnam Fire Department Captain of Hose Company #1 Jim Gardner was recently elected as the new Assistant Fire Chief. Gardner, who has served in the department since 2005, says his main goal is to increase membership. He says one idea being explored right now is allowing residents outside the Special Services District and in neighboring towns to be eligible for membership. The new Assistant Chief explained that there are several individuals who live in Woodstock, Thompson and Pomfret that would like to volunteer, but they cannot because they live just one or two houses over the municipal border; hes not sure at this time by how much the radius would be increased. To fill the vacancy left by Gardner, former Lieutenant of Hose Company #1 Marc Miller was promoted to Captain. As reported, the Assistant Fire Chiefs position had been opened up earlier this year when current Fire Chief Bob Campbell replaced the recently retired Norm Bernier. Tune in for the full report.
