FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Federal labor economists say New Englands unemployment rate of 5.8 percent in November was the same as in the U.S. and was barely lower than the October jobless rate. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday that the November unemployment rate of 4.1 percent in New Hampshire and 4.3 percent in Vermont were significantly lower than the national rate. In contrast, Rhode Islands unemployment rate of 7.1 percent was the fifth-highest in the United States. In Connecticut, the unemployment rate was 6.5 percent, 5.7 percent in Maine and 5.8 percent in Massachusetts. The 5.8 percent unemployment rate in the six-state region fell by just 0.1 percent from October and was down significantly from 7 percent in November 2013.
