FROM THE NEWSROOM: In the interest of preventing future safety - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: In the interest of preventing future safety concerns regarding town roads, the Killingly Town Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission engaged in substantial discussion Tuesday on how to address applications in the future, particularly ones that ask for waivers that could potentially create problems down the line. This joint meeting came after a decision by the town council to approve a sewer easement on Brookside Drive; an area which is the subject of multiple safety concerns, such as the size of the road making it difficult for school buses and fire trucks to properly maneuver in the cul-de-sac. While the easement was in compliance with the area, which had multiple waivers regarding road grade and sidewalks granted to it in the past, the impact that it has on present day Killingly inspired the majority of the discussion, says Planning and Zoning Chairman Keith Thurlow. Going forward, Town Council Chairman John Hallbergh hopes that if any application requests exception to regulation that concerns roads or safety, especially for property that the town will have to inherit, they will not be granted. Thurlow says that while not much that can be done about decisions made in 2008, officials are trying to address ways to prevent future issues that cause problems for the town years down the line. Tune in for the full report.
