FROM THE NEWSROOM: It doesnt matter what country youre from -- kids want to be treated to the same experiences as their peers. In Woodstock, that means riding a bus to school. Woodstock Academy officials say they get it. The schools Board of Trustees recently approved some changes to transportation policies within the International Student Program, to allow students staying with host families to ride buses to school. Woodstock Academy Headmaster Chris Sandford explained that, under the Homestay Program, international students stay with area families. But because they are not technically “residents,” those students previously could not ride town buses and have had to rely on homestay parents to drive them to and from the Academy. With these new changes, an agreement has been worked out that will see the high school pay sending towns $800 a year per student to provide transportation to and from the Academy, and then the Academy will credit the communities that money. Sandford described this agreement as a win-win situation for the sending towns, the homestay parents and the international students who just want to participate in an often maligned pastime – catching the bus to school. Tune in for the full report.
