FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — In a break from past practice, the U.S. Coast Guard says Rear Adm. Sandra L. Stosz, superintendent of the Coast Guard Academy, has been selected to continue as a rear admiral in the Coast Guard. She became the first woman ever to lead a U.S. military academy when she began her tour at the academy in New London in 2011. The Day of New London reports that spokesman David Santos says her tour was due to end in the summer of 2015. Stoszs continuation is a change because superintendents of the academy typically retire after completing their time in the post. Santos says the superintendents post caps a Coast Guard officers career.
