FROM THE NEWSROOM: On August 25, 2014, at approximately 3:07 P.M., the Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Fire Department, The United States Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration and the American Legion Ambulance Service responded to the area of Rawson Material and Hopkins Fabrication at 351 Norwich Road in Plainfield, Connecticut for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a privately owned train on privately owned railroad tracks. Upon arrival investigators found that the victim, James A. Hawkins III, a 39 year old white male from Coventry, Rhode Island had been struck and killed by a privately owned locomotive leased by Rawson Material and operated by the owner of Hopkins Fabrication, Donald Hopkins, a 44 year old male from Plainfield, Connecticut. The Plainfield Police Department and the United States Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration are still actively investigating the incident.
