FROM THE NEWSROOM: Recruitment to get kids signed up for the newly opened Brooklyn Teen Center is on track and growing, according to Recreation Director Bucky Lohbusch. Lohbusch says that although there were only six registered teens before the open house earlier in the fall, that number has grown to 17 participants – growing at a rate of between one and three new sign-ups per week since the center opened. With this in mind, Lohbusch expects to hit the target goal of 30 registered teens by the beginning of February. In addition to the recent open house, he believes that field trips ran for students in the Brooklyn district have also played a role sparking interest in the club. But the target goal is not binding – Lohbusch says recreation officials were informed when planning the teen center that there would be a period of one to two years for the teen center to full operation in terms of programming and participation. Lohbusch says after the holidays, the teen center may resume recruiting efforts if deemed necessary – he acknowledged that teenagers are a challenging demographic to draw interest from. Tune in for the full report.
