FROM THE NEWSROOM: Some land sales and acquisitions are currently being considered by the Putnam Board of Selectmen. Mayor Tony Falzarano told WINY that property on 22 Chase Street may be sold soon; however, because that property is a park, the Selectmen voted to send a purchase proposal to the Recreation Commission which will decide whether the property is useful for local recreation. If the Commission determines it is not useful for recreation, Falzarano said a purchase proposal back to the Selectmen, and then the next step would be to send it to the planning and Zoning Commissions. Presuming everything is approved, the property will go out to bid; Falzarano explained that will there is already an abutting landowner interested in the property, everyone must be given the opportunity to bid on it. The Board of Selectmen also recently tabled discussion another potential acquisition of land on 48 Powhatten Street. Falzarano explained that the abutting lands are for sale, and selling the property outright could make it hang out like a sore thumb, so the Board is waiting to see what happens with the other properties and then attach it to one of them. Tune in for details.
