FROM THE NEWSROOM: Some unhappy provincial government employees - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: Some unhappy provincial government employees have held an information picket in downtown Belleville. About 50 to 60 members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union from the Quinte Area rallied outside Century Place early this afternoon, expressing their displeasure with how little progress has been made in new contract talks. OPSEU Local 455 President Mike Letwin claims the government, faced with decreasing the size of the provincial deficit, wants the union to accept pay grid and benefit reductions. He says the two-year deal the employees had with the province expired at the end of December, contract talks that started in late November arent going well, and strike action could be possible this spring. OPSEU represents about 450 provincial employees in the Quinte Area and Bancroft.
