FROM THE NEWSROOM: State Representative Mae Flexer received the 2014 AARP Legislative Achievement Award from the American Association of Retired Persons, according to a press release. “It is an honor to be recognized by AARP with the legislative achievement award,” said Rep. Flexer. “I am proud of the work I did this past term and will continue to do to make life easier for the seniors across Connecticut. It is critical that legislators stand up to protect consumers from special interests like big utility companies.” AARP honored Flexer for her leadership her outstanding advocacy on behalf of utility ratepayers and for protecting residents aged 50 and older by preserving reliable landline services in Connecticut. “We commend you for your outstanding advocacy on behalf of utility ratepayers,” said AARP’s State Director Nora Duncan of Rep. Flexer. “As a result of your efforts, Connecticut residents, especially those 50 and older, are better protected in the energy market and can choose to have the security and stability of reasonable electric rates and benchmark prices to compare competitive offers. AARP also applauds your successful work to preserved affordable, reliable landline phone service in our state.” Flexer was presented with the award at Quinebaug Valley Senior Center by AARP’s Tom Singleton on August 6th.
