FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Chief of the Tyendinaga Territory isnt paid much more than the band councillors are. The earnings and expenses of all elected officials on First Nations across the country are being posted on the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada website to comply with a new financial transparency act. Chief R. Donald Maracle received 33,930 dollars in honoraria in the fiscal year ending March 31st, while the three councillors who were on the band council for the full 12 months were paid 31,320 dollars. The two other councillors received lesser amounts because they werent on council for the full year.
