FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Northeast District Department of Health will hold a forum this evening to address concerns related to Ebola and Enterovirus D68. The local Brooklyn-based health department is convening a “Community Conversation and Information Exchange” about the two health concerns following increased inquiries from area residents, according to Education and Communications Coordinator Linda Colangelo. NDDH Director Sue Starkey stated ahead of the forum that panelists from the department of health, Day Kimball Hospital, Generations Family Health Center, local Emergency Medical Services, and schools will discuss their preparedness activities and share information about the viruses. The forum will be held at Quinebaug Valley Community College from 6 to 8 p.m. “It’s important for people to know that the risk of Ebola exposure in northeast Connecticut is extremely low. Flu is the infectious disease of primary concern every fall, winter and spring because it can lead to severe illness and death,” said Starkey, in a news release. “This year NDDH will redouble our efforts to get people immunized against the flu because the concern is that people who get the flu will worry that they have Ebola and overwhelm the healthcare system. We want people to be healthy and stay out of emergency rooms.”
