FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Plainfield Police Commission recently announced that the motherboard on the police departments 14 year old speed trailer has been updated in order to allow for more data to be collected from vehicles that drive by. Plainfield Police Captain Mario Arriaga said that the replaced motherboard would now allow the speed trailer to accurately record times, dates, locations, and speeds of vehicles driving by it. The new update, according to Arriaga, was necessary because the trailer was never used to its full potential. Previously, the speed trailer was only able to gather data on speeds and therefore required an officer to monitor other information. With the updated motherboard, however, the speed trailer can now gather data that will allow the Plainfield Police to more effectively dispatch officers to other areas that need support, including addressing and responding to speed limit concerns around town. The speed limit signs can be interchanged, and will alert drivers with their speed flashing in red if they are driving above the speed limit, and amber if they are driving at or below the speed limit. The trailer can also now record the average speed of vehicles, how many cars travel in a period of time, and the weather conditions as well. Tune in for the full report.
