FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Plainfield Police Department has released a press release for an incident that occurred at approximately 2:45 this morning, October 11, 2014. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Potvin Ave. in Moosup due to a report of a male individual seen crawling away from a vehicle that was parked in a driveway. The incident was called in by a passerby, who described the male as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with jeans, and added that the interior light of the vehicle was on at the time. The individual was crawling towards the backyard of the residence. Police determined that the vehicle had been broken into after speaking with the homeowner. The original caller returned to the home soon after to alert Officers that the individual was walking down Church Street not far from the residence. Officers located the suspect, who was identified as Jacob N. Hughes, age 21, of Highland St. Extension in Moosup. Officers observed what appeared to be fresh grass stains on Hughes clothing. He later confessed to having burglarized the vehicle and stealing loose change, which he was still in possession of. Hughes was taken into custody and charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and Larceny in the 6th degree. He is being held on a $5,000 Cash Bond pending his arraignment in Danielson Superior Court on October 14, 2014. Hughes was arrested by Plainfield Police in July for Theft of a Firearm and Larceny as well as for a Breach of Peace back in May.
