FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Woodstock Board of Finance approved a $125,000 appropriation to the school district for additional security items at their Tuesday meeting, which Board of Education Chairman Michael Bernardi says comes from leftover non-lapsing funding from the last fiscal year. The biggest item is 20 two-way radios, which will expedite emergency drills and improve communication in general, as well as new door alarms, more security cameras, and additional security film for the facilities windows. Around 55% of the appropriation will be reimbursed by the state. Another action taken by the finance board was to support the proposed plan to replace the roofs on both school facilities, a project that was initially slated to be done this year; now postponed to 2016. Finance Chairman Michael Dougherty says that the board will be looking over the figures before its next meeting, so that the process with the state can be done properly, and the project can receive the anticipated reimbursement. Should the finance board approve the plan at the Feb. 10 meeting, it will then go to the Board of Selectmen, which will then set town meeting and referendum dates. The initial quote for the project was in the area of $2.5 million. Tune in for the full report.
