FROM THE NEWSROOM: Town Administrator Doug Cutler and Drug Free - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: Town Administrator Doug Cutler and Drug Free Communities Coalition Chairman Romeo Blackmar spoke recently on the WINY Morning Show to give a rundown on recent grants and programs received and started to keep the community safe, and the students motivated. Two federal grants have been received: the 3rd year of the Drug Free Communities grant, which will grant Putnam an extra $125,000, and the 4th and final year of the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act grant, and the town will be submitting for an extra $50,000. Going into the first grant, Cutler goes into detail on the student leadership program, which is a followup to a program with Nichols College, which has gone on for several years. That will take place all day at the Putnam Middle School on Jan. 8th, and is aimed at teaching children, who Cutler calls “our future leaders” the “nuts and bolts” of responsibility, and the technical skills to enact them in every aspect of their life and school. Cutler says that these grants have been immensely helpful in hiring staff, and coordinating programs for Putnam PRIDE, including the Know Your Limit drinking coasters, which were released several years ago restaurants and civic organizations, which have helpful tips to promote safe drinking.
