FROM THE NEWSROOM: Two local churches have come forward with a donation to the members of a church that lost its historic home in a fire last year. Parishioners at St. Marys Church in Putnam and Most Holy Trinity in Pomfret dug deep into their pockets at mass over the recent Memorial Day weekend – putting $4,756 in the collection tin to contribute to the First Congregational Church of Pomfret Rebuilding Fund. When presented with the check at WINY this morning, Reverend Thomas Crumb -- who watched from the lawn with members of his congregation as his church was swallowed by flames last December -- said the response from his fellow clergy, Christians and community members has been “overwhelming.” “The way people have continued to pour out love to our [congregation] during all of this has really bowled us over,” said Crumb. “We are extremely grateful, we are totally blessed and we believe that God is somehow using this tragic set of circumstances to build unity.” An account was established at Putnam Bank following the fire last year, where donations are still be accepted.
