FROM THE NEWSROOM: (UPDATE) A North Grosvenordale woman who was one of two women who were struck by lightning on Crane Beach in Ipswich, Massachusetts, Saturday during a severe thunderstorm has died, according to the Ipswich Police Department. Acting Police Chief Jonathan Hubbard announced today that 61-year-old Marguerite Tomany, died as a result of injuries suffered in the lightning strike. The second victim, a 69-year-old woman from Concord, Mass. remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. Tomany was a recently retired teacher in the Thompson school district, according to school officials. According to local media reports, police said the women were hit by lightening around 4 p.m on Saturday, sending both into cardiac arrest.
