FROM THE NEWSROOM: (UPDATE) Authorities confirm that emergency personnel are working to extinguish a barn fire at 19 Purvis Road in Brooklyn. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. The fire is contained to a hay storage barn on the property of Creamery Brook Bison, according to our reporter on the scene. No people or animals are believed to have been injured. Officials and witnesses at the scene say the fire was contained to the barn. Fire personnel reportedly kept the fire from spreading to a storage and bison building. The barn that burned is likely unsalvageable and went up quickly, they said, because of the dry hay it contained. It is believed the fire started after some kind of pop or explosion, though a confirmed cause has not been released. The farm is owned by former First Selectman Austin Tanner and his wife. Multiple fire departments have responded, among them, Mortlake, Brooklyn, Atwood Hose and Canterbury. WINY will bring you more information as it becomes available.
