FROM THE NEWSROOM: While actual construction and implementation would be at the very least a year away, Putnam Town Administrator Doug Cutler says that recent discussions between officials and a local solar company have brought to light the possibility of bringing renewable energy to the town. Following correspondence with Tom Shippee of Shippee Solar and Construction, Cutler says officials began looking at municipal buildings and a retired landfill as potential sites for solar panels. After being notified that Putnam was eligible for a tax credit program through Connecticut Light & Power, a presentation was held at a recent Water Pollution Control Authority meeting, where it was decided that more research needed, before any decision was made. One concern is the $3 million dollar price tag, which Cutler says is significant, even when considering the energy savings that would come into the town once the panels were in place. There are two years left under the program offered by CL&P, and Cutler hopes that the town will be in a better position next year when they apply for eligibility again. Tune in for the full report.
