FROM THE NEWSROOM: With a recent Gallup Poll indicating that 49% of Connecticut residents polled wish to move out of the state, the second-highest number in the nation following the state of Illinois, Republican and Democratic lawmakers have been reacting differently to the poll results. Republican State Representative Mike Alberts told WINY its sad to see how unpopular the state has become among its own residents, and believes the poor score is due in part to the difficulty of finding jobs or advancing in a career in the state. On the other hand, when we asked Democratic State Representative Brain Sear what his reaction to the poll was, he gave an analogy between an expensive Cadillac and a cheap car that gets 65-miles-per-gallon. Sear said you get what you pay for, and Connecticut is like a Cadillac: while many say theres too many taxes, high energy costs and business regulations, other polls still indicate Connecticut has some of the best healthcare, education, state parks, and overall quality of life in the nation. While those statistics may be true, Representative Alberts – who believes Democratic leaders would prefer to ignore the Gallup Polls results or brush it under the rug for political gain – is still worried that many Connecticut residents are ready to trade their Cadillacs in for a cheaper model, and drive off. Tune in for the full report.
